Tyler J. Douglas’s practice focuses on commercial transactions and commercial litigation. A substantial portion of his practice is also devoted to trust and estate planning and administration, tax planning and controversy, and tax exempt organizations. Mr. Douglas started with Lowe Stein as a law clerk in summer of 2010 and remained with the firm during his 3L year. After graduation he worked for Baron & Budd, PLC on B.P. litigation, before returning to Lowe Stein in January 2012. Mr. Douglas also interned for the Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, and Office of Chief Counsel.

Mr. Douglas’s extensive commercial experience has led to advising clients on a variety of ventures. Mr. Douglas organized a regional magazine, including all of its contracts with photographers, writers and advertisers. He has also organized and successfully obtained 501(c)(3) tax exemption for an American fund raising arm of a Thai nonprofit organization.

Mr. Douglas earned his bachelor’s degree in history, cum laude, at Loyola University New Orleans in 2006, and his juris doctor with a certificate in taxation from Loyola in 2011. During law school he was a Case Note and Comment Editor for Loyola’s Journal of Public Interest Law and published an article on the Louisiana Condominium Act. In the summer of 2014, after attending classes part-time while working full-time at Lowe Stein, Mr. Douglas obtained his LL.M. in Tax Law from the University of Alabama.

Mr. Douglas is very civically involved. He was previously on the board of directors of Halloween’s in New Orleans, Inc, which raises money for Project Lazarus, a home in the Marigny for people living with HIV/AIDS, and is currently on the Fundraising Committee for Project Lazarus. Mr. Douglas is also on the leadership committee of LAMBDA Legal New Orleans and is the New Orleans Programming Coordinator for the Louisiana Bar Association Tax Section. Mr. Douglas has been involved with Emerging Philanthropists of New Orleans since 2013 and currently is a board member. Additionally, Mr. Douglas is a member of the New Orleans Estate Planning Council, American Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association and AP Turead Inn of Court. He is admitted to practice before all Louisiana state courts and the Eastern District of Louisiana.
